Microsoft Re-tags E-Biz Group To Reflect Business Process Integration Focus
The company has internally renamed the E-business Servers group as the Business Process Integration Division. Whatever the name, it will still be headed up by Vice President Ted Kummert
A Microsoft spokesman confirmed the change, saying the new wording better describes the group's mission, which is to deliver process-management integration technology.
A source close to the company said the relabeling "is a clear sign that they're moving on to a new focus and dropping all of the E-business/Jupiter nomenclature."
In February, CRN broke the news that Microsoft was scrubbing plans for a converged E-business Server, code-named Jupiter, that would integrate e-commerce, content management and EAI capabilities. Until that time, the public road map had included a two-phase Jupiter launch, the first being the new BizTalk 2004 server, aka Voyager. The second, the long-delayed converged Discovery server, was pushed out into next year. That was the server that was shelved in February.
In addition, sources close to Microsoft said the company is now weighing an interim release of BizTalk to come out before the planned Longhorn version of that integration server. The spokesman said it is too early to talk about that, and the company is focusing on the rich functionality of the current BizTalk Server 2004 release, available since early this month.
In related news, Microsoft on Monday confirmed that the company will formally unveil ISA Server 2004 at its Tech Ed conference in late May.
