HP Expands Recycling, Dell Blasted By Environmental Coalition

The summer's recycling events in Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Mexico, and Oregon were characterized by HP as a way to "raise awareness and increase the rate of electronics recycling," according to a statement the Palo Alto, Calif. company released Tuesday.

At the events, consumers will be able to drop off a range of products from any manufacturer at no charge. The recycled gear will then be taken to one of HP's approved facilities in the U.S.

The company is also expanding its product take-backs throughout the Asia Pacific region and into Japan to match the existing recycling programs in Europe and the Americas. HP is also planning consumer collection programs in Australia and China.

Dell, meanwhile, is slated to announce a revised recycling program Wednesday in a morning conference call by company chairman Michael Dell. Details were unavailable, however, and Dell representatives didn't return calls asking for more information.
