SonicWall Targets Enterprises With New SSL VPN
The SonicWall SSL VPN 4000 supports 200 concurrent tunnels and is targeted at companies with more than 500 employees, which takes the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based vendor into the enterprise market, said Jan Sijp, product manager for SonicWall's SSL VPN line.
Sijp said the SSL VPN 4000 is geared for midsize organizations that need to support many concurrent users, such as schools and certain government agencies.
The product ships with version 2.0 of SonicWall's SSL VPN firmware, which adds improved Radius support, multiplatform support for Citrix Presentation Server, and support for RSA and Vasco solutions, enabling administrators to use tokens for two-factor authentication, according to Sijp.
Another feature, called one-time passwords, which was part of the firmware 1.5 release earlier this summer, allows remote users to log in with a randomly generated password that can be e-mailed or sent to a mobile phone via SMS, Sijp said.
"The nice thing about this option is that it's a tokenless, two-factor authentication method," Sijp said. "Some administrators don't like to mess with tokens and ensure that everyone has one."
By adding more features and expanding the number of concurrent users, SonicWall is helping solution providers bring the SSL VPN to enterprise customers, said Deepak Thadani, president of SysIntegrators, Woodside, N.Y. "We need these features to address higher end markets," he said.
The addition of RSA support is "definitely necessary" and will help solution providers tap into the fast-growing demand for two-factor authentication solutions, Thadani added.
Available now, the SSL VPN 4000 carries a price of $6,995.
