Oracle Buys Sunopsis For Integration Software

Plans call for Sunopsis' ETL (extract, transform, load) and integration platform products to become part of Oracle's Fusion Middleware line.

Sunopsis, based in Limonest, France, already offered built-in integration support for applications from Oracle and its chief rival, SAP. Sunopsis software earned high marks from the CRN Test Center, which praised the technology as "one of the most unique and valuable data transformation tools in the market."

Redwood Shores, Calif.-based Oracle said it will incorporate Sunopsis' technology into its service-oriented architecture, business intelligence and master data management software offerings.

"For partners, the combination of these two companies is expected to provide high levels of support for your customers' investments, continuity of service, accelerated innovation and greater synergies from the blending of our two partner ecosystems," Oracle Vice President Doug Kennedy, head of worldwide channels and alliances, wrote in an open letter to partners.

Sunopsis enables users to draw data from Oracle's database software as well as some of its competitors, including IBM, Microsoft, Sybase and Teradata. Oracle said it plans to continue that heterogeneous support.

Sunopsis is Oracle's tenth acquisition this year, following purchases of Siebel, Sleepycat and an assortment of vendors offering software aimed at specific industries or technical niches.
