Avnet Launches Services Network
On Tuesday, Avnet announced the creation of its OneTech Connect program, a network of IT service companies that the distributor will connect with its customers who need extra hands. OneTech Connect has five service lines: implementation, consulting, integration, support and managed services. The OneTech brand came to Avnet through its acquisition of Access Distribution and was previously the name of Access's services offerings.
"We've done a lot of the downstream work with our delivery partners to make sure they have the skill, the references and the credibility. We've also made sure we have the rules of engagement very tied out so we don't have a business partner to business partner conflict out in the field," said Jack Morris, vice president, technology and market solutions, Avnet Technology Solutions, Americas.
The Phoenix, Ariz.-based distributor is the latest to create a service network. In 2005 Arrow Electronics launched its Engineer Exchange program to allow technicians to work for other resellers when needed. Tech Data also launched its TechSelect TechSource professional services network in 2005. Ingram Micro's Service Network also allows solution providers to tap each others skill sets and personnel.
Morris said Avnet's services offering is distinct from Ingram's because resellers work through Avnet, not directly with one another.
"The value that we're providing that's different from business partner to business partner community," said Morris. "Ours is different because we're taking an interest in ensuring the quality. Ingram just puts two partners together. They're doing more partner facilitation."
Ingram Micro's Staffing Solutions program allows resellers to work with IMSN-member staffing companies to take on additional staff to meet seasonal or other increased demand that may be temporary.
For Jeffrey J. Teeter, executive vice president and general manager of Logicalis' Solution Technology Group, the system is working well so far. His company has tapped Avnet's network to complete work that they've taken on when they can't finish in a timely manner on their own.
"Not only can it save on expenses, it can fit the customer's time schedule more appropriately " not waiting for our resources. Avnet might be available this week," he said. "And sometimes we get all the way through execution and don't end up using them because our resources are freed up."
