Solution Provider Uses Podcasts To Educate
ThoughtWorks’ chief scientist, Martin Fowler; chief technology officer, Dr. Rebecca Parsons; “Meme Wrangler,” Neal Ford; and software developer, Jay Fields participate in the first podcast on domain-specific languages (DSLs).
DSLs, sometimes called "little languages," are programming languages designed to be used for a specific kind of task. The panel discusses what DSLs are, how to build them effectively, when to use a DSL, and what pitfalls to avoid, as well as some real-world examples of DSL best practices.
"It’s great to lead the discourse to see what ideas will emerge from this," said Michael Klynstra, North American marketing director for ThoughtWorks. Future podcast topics include: How Ruby changes the software development lifecycle; advancements in continous integration; business-driven development; interoperability, and the relevance of a computer science education in today’s IT landscape.
Last month, ThoughtWorks announced the development and launch of www.omio.com, a new comparison Website for mobile phones and services from TrafficBroker. The site was built from the ground up in 50 days, resulting in one of the UK's first applications of its kind using Ruby on Rails.
