Some Attention-Getter: Tennesse Woman Arrested For Facebook 'Poke'
Shannon Jackson, 36, of Hendersonville, Tenn., used the Facebook "poke" feature, which sends a quick note with no text to another person to try to get their attention. But the order of protection against Jackson meant that she was prohibited from "telephoning, contacting or otherwise communicating with the petitioner," according to The Tenneseean newspaper.
Jackson was taken to the Sumner County jail and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 28, according to the newspaper. She faces up to a year in jail and a $2,500 fine if convicted.
It's not known whether Jackson is the first person to be arrested for "poking," but there are other Facebook users who have been arrested in high-profile matters.
On Sept. 18, Radames Santiago, a freshman student at St. John's University in New York, was arrested after allegedly posting Facebook messages in which he threatened to kill people with a "Virginia Tech attack," according to the Chronicle of Higher Education.
Last week, a 26-year-old Italian man was arrested after logging on to Facebook on a computer he accessed while breaking into a house. Police were able to track down the user and recover stolen cash and jewelry, according to The Telegraph newspaper in the U.K.
