Ingram Micro Taps Longtime Distribution Vet As North America SVP

"I've been running the commercial markets division comprised of SMB customers and VARs, public sector customers and large national resellers," Robinson told CRN. "I am very excited to jump into the global area. Everybody is trying to act more globally, and it's a priority for us to look at how we can work more closely with both customers and vendors on global solutions."

Robinson joined Ingram Micro in 1993 as a sales representative and has steadily climbed the ladder, gaining positions of executive leadership. In May 2010, he was appointed vice president of VAR sales, market development and business intelligence and soon became the vice president of Ingram Micro's U.S. commercial markets business, the position he now vacates.

"You are going to see a lot more focus from an SMB standpoint," he added. "We jumped in about a year and a half ago with a serious SMB strategy, and we are seeing great results there. Another area where we are going to continue to work is in the healthcare vertical where we have seen double digit growth through Q3. We' re very excited with what we are seeing in the healthcare space and have some additional vendors and solutions coming on board there. Lastly, our recent acquisition of Promark gives us access to GSA contracts. We've been trying to figure out how to get into that environment for years, and we're working with several of the top vendors to become a dominant player there, also."

Robinson continues to report to Paul Bay, senior executive vice president and president of Ingram Micro North America.

The Robinson promotion is part of a series of top level management announcements at Ingram Micro this month. On Jan. 4, the company named Brent McCarty as its new executive managing director of Ingram Micro U.K. and Ireland, a position recently vacated by Matt Sanderson who now returns to Australia to lead company operations there. Tom Bamrick was then appointed to lead the consumer electronics division. In addition, Bashar Nejdawi was promoted to president of Ingram Micro North America Mobility.

The Santa Ana, California-based company has also announced a distribution agreement enabling the resale of HID Global's security solutions. The portfolio features authentication and credential management, card printing and personalization, visitor management systems, and RFID technologies used to support various verticals.

"As security threats become more complex, the business need for more advanced and highly integrated security solutions, such as secure identity, authentication management and access control, becomes increasingly more important and presents a growing business opportunity for channel partners specializing in this space," says Tom Burns, director, Physical Security business unit, Ingram Micro North America in a prepared statement. "HID Global complements Ingram Micro's existing physical security portfolio and enables us to provide our channel partners access to the technology and solutions needed to address the market's need for more intelligent, converged security solutions that are easily deployed and managed."
