CA's eTrust Vulnerability Manager Available Through Ingram Micro

The distributor previously carried storage management, security management and network/desktop management solutions by Islandia, N.Y.-based CA. The eTrust Vulnerability Manager r8 is a rack-mountable security management appliance that offers vulnerability assessment, automated patch and configuration management, remediation and compliance analysis, according to CA.

Solution providers can use the appliance to solve vulnerability management problems ranging from threat detection to mediation including patch and configuration management, said George Kafkarkou, senior vice president of worldwide channel operations at CA.

"Nobody [else] offers this solution in one appliance. It detects vulnerability, remediates vulnerabilities and provides patch management. That is a tremendous combination that addresses real issues," Kafkarkou said. "It is packaged appropriately for SMB up to enterprise."

CA's eTrust solution scales from SMB to enterprise and addresses the primary security concerns that most companies face today, said Brian Wiser, senior vice president of marketing at Ingram Micro.

"Demand opportunities will pull from all aspects of the market including verticals such as finance and healthcare where clients place significant priority on securing their network and meeting government regulations," Wiser said. "Security solutions continue to be a strong sell for our [VAR] customer base and are one of our fast-growth [manufacturing] segments."

The Ingram Micro agreement follows CA's recent expansion of its distribution relationship with Arrow Electronics. Arrow's MOCA, SBM and SupportNet divisions now can sell CA's Unicenter Desktop Management Bundle and Unicenter Desktop DNA products. The distributor already carries CA's eTrust security and Brightstor storage software lines.

"Computer Associates believes in value of distribution. We transact with thousands of resellers and, as good as my people are, it's very challenging to reach all of our reseller base, particularly when you look at the segmentation of products," Kafkarkou said.

"As such we are deliberately, carefully, and appropriately determining our distribution strategy for CA's solution sets. We've worked closely with Arrow in researching that whole category further. It wouldn't surprise me if we had more [distribution expansion] in the not-too-distant future."
