Competition between HP and Cisco continues to heat up, as HP launches its Helion line of OpenStack offerings, which targets the Cisco-RedHat Partnership called “Journey to the Open Cloud.”

The new open-source-based cloud products and services will provide customers a safe haven for architecting cloud strategies across hybrid environments. The line will include its own OpenStack distribution and cloud foundry-based Platform-as-a-Service.

EMC is building hyper-converged infrastructure technology, entering a market space currently dominated by many startups. Hyper-converged infrastructure technology combines server, storage, networking and virtualization technology in a software-defined stack, running on a single commodity server.

EMC said it will have the appliance by the end of 2014 and it will be competitive against current offerings from startups.

D&H distributing has seen double-digit growth in the SMB market, as it wraps up its 2014 fiscal year. The distributor has seen 20 percent sales growth in SMB solutions since January, and 2014 marks the fifteenth year that D&H has averaged double-digit growth.

The company took the reins in educating partners about the XP expiration and resulting opportunities, and it expects the momentum to carry through the calendar year as SMBs upgrade systems.
