Reports have surfaced that Citrix Systems is considering a leveraged buyout by private equity firms. Sources say Citrix would like to transition to a private, smaller, cloud-focused company.

Details around when or how a deal may be struck are still murky, but Citrix partners say the move would be no surprise considering that investor Elliott Management now holds 7.1 percent of the vendor and wants big changes.

This week at the Red Hat Summit in Boston Red Hat and Samsung unveiled a partnership to develop enterprise mobile applications.

Red Hat’s new mobile application platform will leverage Samsung’s portfolio of mobile devices and services. The alliance will include go-to-market activities and integrated support services for partners and customers, particularly around enterprise mobility management. Together, the two vendors will develop industry-specific mobile business applications. The alliance will first focus on the U.S. market.

And the first financial quarter brought mixed results to BlackBerry, which reported a loss on the quarter but said its software and technology licensing revenue grew 150 percent.

CEO John Chen said the numbers represent the company’s focus on mobile device management and security software. Hardware sales dropped by $116 million compared with the same quarter last year.
