Tech Mahindra COO: Virtual Reality Platforms are 'Perfect' for Retailers

Virtual reality is starting to make a real shift from the world of science fiction into the everyday lives of consumers through products like HP’s Sprout, Microsoft’s HoloLens and, even more recently, right on your phone with games and apps like Pokémon GO.

Now, VR platform developers like Paris-based Augment are starting to show solution providers how they can leverage virtual reality for their retail-facing clients and make this new technology work for them.

Mickaël Jordan, co-founder and COO of Augment, explained how his company’s platform works at Tech Mahindra’s recent Boston show, explaining that the platform allows a customer to scan a picture of a product on their phone or computer and immediately start to interact with it in three dimensions, allowing business owners to always have their products available for customers to see, try, and play with in virtual reality.

’Our approach … is to allow sales associates in the store or the customer at home to really experience the product as if it was in front of them,’ he said.

Jordan said his company’s platform is a tool that can help businesses increase sales by expanding their mobile capabilities and online presence.

’It is a perfect ecommerce story because you can get a get a feeling for a product at home or in the store in a very realistic way,’ Jordan said.
