Channel Beat: Dell Starts Layoffs Post-EMC Acquisition

This week Dell confirmed that some employees from both sides of its deal with EMC will be laid off, including back-end office employees and backup and recovery employees.

A Dell spokesperson confirmed the layoffs to CRN via email but declined to offer further details.

Solution providers told CRN they have been expecting the job cuts, and last month Bloomberg reported that Dell was expected to lay off 2,000 to 3,000 people.

It looks like the NSA may be dealing with Snowden 2.0. This week the FBI arrested an NSA contractor through Booz Allen Hamilton on charges that he stole classified documents.The New York Timesreported that the FBI is investigating whether the contractor, Harold T. Martin III, stole documents that potentially included classified computer code related to breaking into foreign systems from China and North Korea.

Insider threats accounted for 77 percent of all data breaches last year, according to the 2016 Verizon Data Breach Report.

Juniper Networks launched several new security offerings this week in direct competition with Cisco and Check Point. The company unveiled a new policy enforcer and a line of midrange firewalls at its NXTWORK customer conference. Juniper partners say the new firewalls will aid in security sales in the midmarket. They’ll be able to provide their own professional services with the offerings or resell Juniper Networks Professional Services.
