WOTC Keynote: Learning New Skills Is a Must, Says Tech Data VP Angie McCourt

Angie McCourt, vice president of the Cisco Solutions Group at Tech Data, spoke about the importance of developing new skills and learning from acquisitions during the 2017 Women Of The Channel event in Napa, California.

"We don't always know everything about ourselves until we are put into a situation where we can experience that," said McCourt.

She went on to talk about the various opportunities she's had in her career to be a part of different special projects, and how she broadened her mind and industry knowledge with the help of the people she's met and the challenges she's faced.

Regarding Tech Data's September 2016 acquisition of Avnet Technology Solutions she said, "I feel like the most beneficial, important and exciting thing about this is the people and the culture."

She urged the audience to take advantage of new career opportunities within their own companies.

"There are always new people you can learn from and just absorb knowledge from their different experiences," said McCourt.

In the technology industry, McCourt sees it as a "requirement" that employees are constantly learning and finding themselves open to growth and change.

"Taking risks is critical in a transforming market. That's how innovation happens," she said.
