WATCH: Cisco Leads This Week’s Slice of the Channel

Cisco appointed a new global boss channel boss. Oliver Tuszik, a former solution provider and current leader of Cisco’s business in Germany, will become Cisco’s new senior vice president of its Global Partner Organization. He replaces Wendy Bahr, who announced her resignation from the role in August. Following the news on Wednesday, solution providers called Germany a competitive and tech-savvy market and said the expertise Tuszik has honed there will undoubtedly carry over to his tenure as global channel chief.

Microsoft is doubling down on its investment in artificial intelligence and machine learning. At Microsoft Ignite this week in Orlando, the tech giant rolled out new ways to train AI systems. The AI model generator will be capable of automatically picking the most appropriate algorithm for the user's needs. The new service will compete with Google’s AutoML.

Michael Dell weighed in on public cloud backlash. In an exclusive interview with CRN, Dell said as much as 80 percent of the customers across all segments are repatriating workloads back to on-premise systems because of costs, security and performance. Dell said he is not surprised by customers moving their IT budgets back on-premise as he predicted it would happen years ago.

"Go back and replay the tapes from 2014 and 2015 when we were talking about this then. It's one of the reasons why we made a big bet on Dell EMC and VMware," he said. "And it's playing out in a way which is consistent of what we thought."

Meanwhile, Salesforce hosted its mega conference Dreamforce in San Francisco this week. Among the top announcements from the show is new innovation from Apple and Salesforce. The two companies are bringing together their CRM platform and iOs to create new mobile apps for business.
