WATCH: Oracle Execs Discuss Huge Opportunity For Partners

Oracle’s Bill Swales and Iain Urquhart say partners should be focused on moving customers off the old and onto the modern.

In an interview with CRNtv, Oracle’s Bill Swales and Iain Urquhart explained how Oracle’s “modern” architecture has the tech giant standing out from the competition. Discussing Oracle’s Cloud Platform, autonomous database and its suite of business applications, they say partners now have the opportunity to build new businesses in a way they never have before.

“A lot of people use the analogy that we’re in the first inning of a baseball game. There’s so much opportunity out there,” said Swales, group vice president and North America channel chief.

Swales noted Oracle’s innovation in the cloud with its Gen 2 infrastructure. Unveiled at Oracle OpenWorld, Gen 2 has built-in automation and security features that uniquely target the enterprise. He also discussed the benefits around Oracle’s autonomous database, which can free up database administrators to do higher-level work.

“When I think of one word I think of ‘modern.’ I think of some of these other competitive cloud platforms that are out there that were built so long ago. It’s to our advantage that we have all of this new modern design and that design creates competitive differentiation. It creates greater customer value,” said Swales.

“I take the word ‘modern’ and I add ‘breadth.’ If you think about it, if I’m a partner with Amazon or if I’m a partner with Salesforce, they’re great companies but they are really focused on one area. When I partner with Oracle, I have infrastructure I can go sell, I’ve got Platform as a Service. I have this portfolio of SaaS that no other company has in the marketplace,” added Urquhart, group vice president of North America Application Sales.

Looking ahead, Oracle has big plans for its cloud platform. Next summer, Oracle’s Cloud at Customer option will also be able to run the autonomous database. Cloud at Customer makes it possible to run Oracle Cloud in a business’ own data center.
