Cloud Market Share Q2 2025: Microsoft Dips, AWS Still Kingpin
Here’s a breakdown of the global cloud market-share numbers for AWS, Alibaba, Google Cloud, Oracle and Microsoft for the second quarter of 2025, according to new market data.
Microsoft’s global cloud market share dipped, while Google Cloud reached a new market- share record in the second quarter of 2025. Meanwhile, Amazon Web Services gained 1 point of share year over year to retain its global No. 1 cloud market-share position.
AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft—combined—won 63 percent of the global enterprise cloud infrastructure services market in the second quarter of 2025, according to new data from IT market firm Synergy Research Group.
“This is a good time to be a cloud provider,” said John Dinsdale, a chief analyst at Synergy Research Group, in an email to CRN.
“Despite being on the verge of becoming a $100-billion-per-quarter market, cloud revenues are still growing by around 25 percent per year, and we are forecasting that average annual growth over the next five years will remain above 20 percent,” Dinsdale said.

AWS, Alibaba, Google Cloud, Oracle and Microsoft were the top five leaders in the cloud market during the second quarter of 2025.
Before jumping into each company’s official market share, here’s a quick look at the overall cloud services market during the quarter.
Worldwide Cloud Services Market Hits $99 Billion; ‘We Can Thank GenAI’
Global enterprise spending on cloud infrastructure services reached $99 billion in the second quarter of 2025, according to Synergy’s data, representing an increase of over $20 billion year over year compared with the second quarter of 2024.
“We can thank GenAI for supersizing what was already a big and high-growth market,” Dinsdale said. “In Q2 we saw growth of 140 [percent to] 180 percent in GenAI-specific cloud services, and AI is also contributing to enhancements and added growth across the broader portfolio of cloud services.”
Cloud providers have seen quarterly revenue jump by $36 billion since the beginning of 2023, with GenAI being the major driver of this growth.

The Austin, Texas-based software and cloud giant won 3 percent share of the global cloud infrastructure services market during the second quarter of 2025.
Oracle has consistently captured around 3 percent share of the global cloud market for the past several quarters.
In June, Oracle reported fourth fiscal quarter 2025 total cloud revenue of $6.7 billion, up 27 percent year over year.
No. 4: Alibaba

The Chinese cloud giant won 4 percent share of the global cloud market in the second quarter of 2025.
Alibaba has consistently ranked in fourth place for the past several years with market share hovering around 4 percent quarter after quarter.
In May, Alibaba’s Cloud Intelligence Group reported $4.15 billion in revenue for the first quarter of 2025, representing an increase of 18 percent year over year.
No. 3: Google Cloud

Google Cloud reached a record 13 percent global market share in the second quarter of 2025.
The Mountain View, Calif.-based cloud company continues to slowly boost its global market share as Google Cloud increased its share by 1 point year over year.
Google Cloud generated a record $13.6 billion in sales during the second quarter of 2025, representing a 32 percent increase year over year.
No. 2: Microsoft

Microsoft achieved 20 percent share of the global cloud market during the second quarter of 2025 as the software giant’s share dropped 3 points year over year.
The world’s biggest software company’s market share has hovered between 20 percent and 25 percent over the past several years. For example, Microsoft won 25 percent share in the first quarter of 2024.
Microsoft’s Intelligent Cloud group generated $29.9 billion in revenue during the second quarter of 2025, representing a 26 percent year-over-year growth rate.
The company’s cloud annual run rate is now $120 billion.

AWS remains the dominant cloud leader in the world, capturing 30 percent share of the global market in the second quarter of 2025.
AWS’ 30 percent market share in the second quarter of 2025 is down 2 points year over year.
The Seattle-based cloud giant’s global market share has hovered between 29 percent share and 33 percent share over the past several years.
For the second quarter of 2025, AWS generated $30.9 billion in total sales, up 17 percent year over year.
AWS’ annual run rate is now $124 billion.

IBM: 2 percent
Tencent: 2 percent
Huawei: 2 percent
China-based companies Tencent and Huawei along with U.S.-based IT giants IBM and Salesforce each won 2 percent share of the global market in the second quarter of 2025.
Other companies that have a market share of approximately 1 percent include Akamai, Baidu, China Telecom, China Unicom, CoreWeave, Databricks, Fujitsu, NTT, Snowflake, SAP and VMware.
