RightScale Adds Security, Governance, Compliance For Cloud Management

Michael Crandell, RightScale CEO, said many IT managers are concerned that as their companies move to the cloud, they are losing control of the governance of their IT assets.

"Today, they are looking for a balance of the agility the cloud provides with the need to maintain their business goals of security, compliance and governance," Crandell said in an interview with CRN.

The company said it has teamed with Ping Identity to offer identity federation. RightScale will also support Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML).

RightScale said that the new features will allow customers to take identity management from internal directory services to cloud instances and to customize access.

RightScale also offered new enterprise reporting capabilities that enable customized reporting on usage and costs across multiple clouds, business units, account and applications.

The cost management features let users tag cloud resources to view who is using the resources and to charge individual accounts and departments for their use.

The company also announced support for server templates, pre-built, customizable templates that let users create multi-tier architectures in the cloud, using well-known applications servers, databases and Web servers.
