OrionVM Inks Deal To Supply AT&T Partners With White-Label Cloud

AT&T's channel can brand their own IaaS service with the technology imported from Australia

OrionVM, a wholesale IaaS vendor from Down Under that landed in San Francisco last year, got rolling on a partnership with AT&T Partner Exchange on Monday through which the OrionVM customers will be able to pair the white label cloud platform with AT&T's connectivity solutions.

The deal was formalized with OrionVM joining the AT&T Partner Exchange as a Platinum Solution Provider. AT&T partners can sell the combined cloud and network services, that two companies will jointly market, Daniel Pfeiffer, OrionVM's vice president of marketing and partnerships, told CRN.

OrionVM offers a unique cloud architecture modeled on supercomputers that the company claims delivers superior performance at a price point that leaves room for margins far healthier than those reaped from reselling hyper-scale clouds.

The company was essentially born in a dorm room in Sydney. Founder and CEO Sheng Yeo and some college associates created the architecture, which ultimately won the endorsement of Gordon Bell, a Microsoft researcher and luminary in the field.

The approach essentially creates a hyper-converged cloud platform with nodes linked by ultra-fast InfiniBand connectivity. But unlike hyper-converged startups Nutanix or SimpliVity, OrionVM delivers virtual machines as a service, not an appliance.

Resellers can white-label that service and bring it to market as their own secure enterprise-ready cloud.

"We're giving them a cluster that's bottled up, able to be deployed as your own stack, as your own brand, and now you have margins to make a profit and deliver a high-performing, highly resilient system," Pfeiffer told CRN.

Partners who want to resell OrionVM's cloud essentially purchase wholesale capacity up front in blocks.

Pfeiffer said that model, coupled with the innovative design, greatly reduces the cost of scaling the service.

No third-party technologies are employed, so there's no additional licensing costs to reselling OrionVM, he added.

"We threw out all extraneous costs and licensing that bloats the costs. We delivered as-a-service and made easy," Pfeiffer said.
