NTT Communications, Dimension Data Combine Their Global Cloud Businesses

The plan to build a combined worldwide infrastructure and cloud expertise for providing public, private and hybrid cloud capabilities to customers comes in the wake of significant restructuring at Dimension Data over the past year.

NTT Communications and its Dimension Data subsidiary are combining their cloud infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) capabilities into a single global solution provider organization under NTT Communications targeting at bringing cloud-based offerings to clients of both companies.

The move comes following recent executive turnovers and employee layoffs at Dimension Data, which was acquired in 2010 by Tokyo-based NTT Communications in a $3 billion deal that created a global technology solutions and services provider.

By combining the cloud personnel and resources of Dimension Data and NTT Communications, the company hopes to be better able to expand its innovation and drive new services, NTT Communications said. Both organizations will retain their existing strategic partnerships under the new structure.

Dimension Data has gone through significant changes since its acquisition by NTT Communications. The company had a large round of layoffs in the past year, and its recent executive departures included U.S. CEO Mark Slaga and Chief Financial Officer Eric Gibson.

The new combined NTT and Dimension Data cloud business is slated to provide a wide range of hybrid IT services, NTT Communications said. These include a secure global environment that combines public, private and hybrid cloud offerings; a consistent computing environment and automated delivery model including public and private clouds; private cloud consumption-based billing; software-defined technologies to integrate with WAN and data centers worldwide; single pane of glass management; and an open ecosystem.

Neither NTT Communications nor Data Dimension were available to provide more information by press time.
