Google Cloud Partner CloudWerx Hires Former Google Manager As New CIO
Fast-growing Google Cloud partner CloudWerx continues to pull in top-notch Google and Microsoft talent to the team, including its new CIO, Munish Gupta.
One of Google Cloud’s fastest-rising partners, CloudWerx, continues to hire top-notch talent from companies including Google and Microsoft as the Silicon Valley-based startup Friday unveiled the hiring of Munish Gupta as its new CIO.
Gupta is a 12-year Google veteran who specializes in building successful site reliability engineering organizations to drive automation and reliability. His last role as Google was as a technical account manager, while Gupta also spent five years at Oracle as a consulting technical manager.
“Technology is constantly evolving, and the only way to stay relevant is to keep at it,” said Gupta in a statement. “The way forward is to now build a world-class engineering team that has the passion and technical depth, and we will always strive to revolve around the fundamental principles of any solution—simplicity, reliability, security and ability to automatically scale up and down.”
As CloudWerx’s new CIO, Gupta is responsible for developing the company’s strategy with a focus on vendor, talent and data management, as well as cybersecurity and business continuity. Gupta has eight Google Cloud certifications, including Certified Professional Cloud Network Engineer and Certified Professional Cloud Security Engineer.
CloudWerx said it is “confident” Gupta will play a pivotal role in the Google Cloud partner’s continued business growth.
“[We] set out to form an exceptional engineering team at CloudWerx, dedicated to tackling the most formidable cloud-related obstacles with the most clientele in the field,” said CloudWerx CEO Jason Geis in an email to CRN. “We are thrilled to announce a remarkable addition to our engineering team, extending a warm welcome to Munish Gupta.”
CloudWerx Hires Former Google Exec As New CTO
CloudWerx is a Santa Clara, Calif.-based startup that already has more than 200 customers, along with a 100 percent customer retention rate.
This year, CloudWerx has invested heavily into hiring top cloud talent in a move to expand its Google Cloud business.
In April, the company hired former Microsoft director Sidhant Gupta as its new CTO. Gupta left Microsoft as the company’s director of product incubation, tasked with bringing innovative health and life sciences incubations to the market. He spent nearly nine years at Microsoft, including as a strategy adviser helping craft Microsoft’s digital health-care innovation pipeline and strategy.
CloudWerx anticipates strong collaboration between both newly hired executives with planned joint ownership on a number of technical initiatives.
Google Cloud Q2 2023 Earnings, $32 Billion Run Rate
CloudWerx’s hiring of Google Cloud’s Gupta comes as Google Cloud begins its profitability era.
Nearly since its inception, Google Cloud has been operating at a loss. The company has historically generated hundreds of millions of dollars in operating losses every quarter.
For the first time in the company’s history, Google Cloud turned a profit of $191 million during the first quarter of 2023. The second quarter of 2023 proved that the first quarter was not just a fluke.
Google Cloud recently reported operating income of $395 million for second-quarter 2023 compared with an operating loss of $590 million year over year. This means Google Cloud improved its operating income by nearly $1 billion year over year in second-quarter 2023.
With second-quarter 2023 sales reaching over $8 billion, Google Cloud currently has an annual run rate of $32 billion.
