Google Cloud Taps Palo Alto’s Kathy Bonanno As Finance Chief

'Kathy has presided over our financial team during Palo Alto Networks' tremendous expansion into a multi-platform security company,' Palo Alto Networks CEO Nikesh Arora said.

Google Cloud has hired a new business finance officer from Palo Alto Networks.

Kathy Bonanno will join the third-ranked cloud provider after serving as chief financial officer for Palo Alto Networks since November 2017.

Bonanno will remain with Palo Alto Networks through the end of the current fiscal year, which ends on July 31, according to the Santa Clara, Calif.-based cybersecurity company, which disclosed the news this afternoon and said it plans to name a new hire to the role later this week.

Google Cloud lost its CFO with the departure of Steffan Tomlinson, who has taken the CFO position at Mountain View, Calif.-based Confluent, an enterprise event streaming platform provider – an announcement also made today.

A Google Cloud spokesperson confirmed Bonanno will join Google on Aug.17 and report to Ruth Porat, CFO of Google and parent company Alphabet.

Bonanno started at Palo Alto Networks in 2014 as vice president of finance, before becoming senior vice president of finance in late 2016.

"Kathy has presided over our financial team during Palo Alto Networks' tremendous expansion into a multi-platform security company," Palo Alto Networks CEO Nikesh Arora said in a statement. "She has chosen a close partner of ours for her next career step -- one I know very well, and that has equally amazing people. I would like to thank Kathy for her many contributions to our company and wish her the very best and continued success in her new role."

Prior to starting at Palo Alto Networks, Bonanno worked at the former Symantec security software company for almost eight years, most recently as vice president of financial planning and analysis.
