Black Duck CMO: 'DevOps Is Speeding Up The Way We Bring Applications To Market'

CRNtv spoke with Black Duck CMO Bob Canaway about the company's recent collaboration with Pivotal Cloud Foundry. Black Duck is now a tile – a fully integrated installation package – on the Pivotal Network, enabling the company to secure and manage open source code for enterprise customers.

"The world is moving to the cloud," said Canaway. "All software companies, at this point, want to be on the cloud. It impacts scale, so if there are issues within their applications or within their software, they need to know about them quickly."

And "quickly," according to Canaway, is actually the speed of DevOps.

"DevOps is really speeding up the way we bring applications to market and improve those applications. With the Black Duck, Pivotal Cloud Foundry integration we're able to help companies ensure that their applications are risk-free, and do so quickly," said Canaway.

He said that as applications are being deployed into Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Black Duck can take a look and find the open source that was used to build them. This allows customers to decide whether or not they go into production, or back to developers for a fix.

"Having this capability really opens up new markets for Black Duck," said Canaway.
