Sun Appoints New Federal Execs

Two executives have joined Scott McNealy at Sun's federal subsidiary. The vendor named Bill Vass as president and chief operating officer of Sun Federal, and Anthony Robbins as vice president of federal sales.

The appointments come about three months after the news that McNealy was stepping down as chief executive of Sun Microsystems and taking on the role of chairman for Sun Federal.

Vass takes over the role of COO from John Marselle, who is retiring after 20 years with the company. Prior to joining Sun in 2001 as chief information officer, Vass served as a director for the CIO within the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Robbins comes to Sun from SGI, where he was president of the federal division before being promoted to senior vice president of worldwide sales.

Sun has claimed s newfound focus on its government business, which saw a decline in net revenue in 2005, according to the company's annual report.
