However, the mid-year rash of new product introductions by both AMD and Intel triggered a fierce price war between both companies to clear out existing inventories. Falling prices contributed to AMD seeing its recent string of record quarters halted as the company missed second-quarter sales guidance.

The ruling could also provide beleagured Intel a much-needed jolt of confidence. The microprocessor supplier seen declining sales and earnings, and has undergone a series of restructuring actions in recent months.

The most significant of these actions took place earlier this month, when the company said it would lay off 10,500 people through the middle of 2007.
