Fujitsu Joins Sony Battery Recall

Fujitsu said it would join Sony's voluntary battery replacement program, but did not say how many batteries the program would cover. The company said it would post a list of mobile products eligible for new batteries on its Web site.

Fujitsu joins Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo and Apple Computer in recalling the batteries that have on rare occasion burst into flames. There have been no serious injuries reported.

Fujitsu apparently joined the program as a precaution. "At this time, there have been no instance of battery pack problems involving Fujitsu mobile products," a spokeswoman said in an email.

Earlier Friday, Dell and Toshiba said they would expand their recalls of notebook batteries. Dell has recalled a total of 4.2 million batteries, making it the largest consumer electronics recall ever.
