Ingram Axes Nimax Name
As it kicked off its third annual partner invitational in Las Vegas today, Ingram Micro announced that it will be changing the name of its Nimax division to the Ingram Micro Data Capture/POS division.
"We really want to leverage the strength of the Ingram Micro brand name," said John Soumbasakis, vice president and general manager, Ingram Micro Data Capture/POS Division. "There is a lot of good will in the Ingram Micro name. I think it's going to be beneficial to us to do it."
The move comes two years after the Santa Ana-based distributor acquired Nimax. The division will continue to remain independent with its own sales force, support capabilities and vendor relationships, he said.
VAR customers of the Nimax division shouldn't be affected, he said, but the division does plan to push into new areas and sell complete solutions for the digital signage, POS and other markets. Soumbasakis said he expects to see growth in data capture and mobility with new wireless mobile terminals.
In the POS market, products such as digital signage, mobile applications and wireless devices are also gaining traction along with devices that combine the POS and payment processing products. "We're starting to see those more integrated. I think this will drive more demand for replacement of POS systems," he said.
Attendance at the three-day partner conference in Las Vegas is expected to be about 250, double what it drew last year with vendor partners of both the Data Capture/POS division and Ingram Micro participating.
"We're doing a few things differently this year at the event, trying to make it more meaningful for allWe're going to have a lot more breakout sessions for our partners to choose from to make sure they get the right level of information about Ingram Micro," he said.
