Acer Unveils Gemstone Blue Notebooks
Acer president Gianfranco Lanci kicked off the event Wednesday at New York's stylish ICA Building with a presentation on the company's financial performance and ambitions for 2008 before unveiling the newest additions to the company's product line-up: the Aspire Gemstone Blue line.
Acer's Aspire Gemstone Blue line, so called because of their iridescent blue-black-silver casing and control pads, launched with two models, both optimized for viewing Blu-Ray DVDs. The company is positioning them as consumer products, although they have the capacity for business use.
The Acer Aspire 6920 features a 16-inch full HD CineCrystal LCD panel with 1920x1080 pixel resolution, 8ms response time and native 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio and the Aspire 8920G series features an 18.4-inch version.
Both include Dolby Home Theater sound systems and Intel Core 2 Duo processors. The 8920G can be configured with up to 640 GB of hard drive space and select models can be bundled with a Bluetooth VoIP phone.
Both Aspire Gemstone Blue lines will be sold through the channel and pricing starts at around $900 for lower-end configurations and will top out around $2,000. The notebooks will ship with Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate or Windows Vista Home Premium edition pre-installed.
