Toshiba Gives Skinny Portege R500 A Solid State
The Portege R500 is outfitted with a 7mm DVD SuperMulti Drive to go with the new SSD, which unlike hard disk drives has no moving parts and is thus more durable. Of course, the new drive also comes with a pretty steep price hike.
Porteges with the SSD will cost $2,995, roughly $1,000 more than the versions with hard disks in the 120GB to 160GB range, according to media reports.
The notebook also features a 1.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo chip, battery life of up to eight hours, and a transreflective backlit LED screen, according to Toshiba.
