Sharp, Sony Form New LCD Company

The company will be called Sharp Display Products Corp. and will be located in Osaka, Japan after construction is completed. Hiroshi Saji, currently a Sharp corporate advisor, has been named president of the new venture.

The companies said they have been in ongoing negotiations and finally got the okay from Sharp's board of directors to launch the subsidiary on April 1. Sharp is investing 100 million yen and will own 100 percent of the new company.

The new company will produce and sell large-size LCD panels and LCD modules using the world's first 10th generation mother glass substrates.
