CES: Sony Introduces New Vaios, "Green" Notebook

The W Series Vaio is a 10.1-inch notebook with 16:9 aspect ratio widescreen display with LED backlight and comes with Windows 7. More importantly, the low-cost "green-book," which starts at $480, has a chassis made from recycled plastics such as CDs and DVDs.

Sony also introduced the high performance F Series Vaio, a 16.4-inch notebook also featuring 16:9 aspect ratio widescreen display with full HD support up to 1920 x 1080 resolution. The F Series comes with Intel Core 2 Quad platform and is designed for high-end gaming and video performance, with Blu-ray playback and HDMI output. The F Series starts at around $1,000.

In addition to the W and F Series Vaio models, Sony also unveiled the Y Series 13.3-inch notebook. The Y Series is distinguished by its thin frame, which is less than 1.3 inches, and a standard battery that provides 7 hours of life. The model also comes with Intel's Core 2 Duo processor, Windows 7, and HDMI output. The Y Series starts at $800.

And lastly, the Z Series Vaio is defined by its low weight. At less than 3 lbs, the Z Series has a durable carbon-fiber and aluminum chassis with a solid stat drive; the model was designed for travelers who need a tough but portable notebook. Like the other models, the 13.1-inch Z Series notebook features a 16:9 aspect ratio widescreen display with LED backlight. The Z Series is the most expensive of the new Vaio models, starting at around $1900.
