ThinPrint Rolls Out Virtual Desktop Printing Toolkit
The toolkit, in conjunction with ThinPrint's .print 8.0 print management software platform, supports virtual desktop environments such as Citrix XenDesktop, Microsoft VDI Suite and VMware desktop products, the company said.
"Now, with the availability of ThinPrint's new Desktop Extension, businesses can easily maximize the productivity and effectiveness of their virtual printing infrastructures, while enhancing the overall user experience," Henning Volkmer, president and CEO of ThinPrint, in a statement.
With the downloadable Desktop Extension toolkit, .print 8.0 now delivers VDI printing features such as high performance print data compression, connection specific bandwidth control, SSL encryption of print data, a tracking service for analyzing printing costs, various print management and efficiency options, and a proprietary driver-free printing technology, according to ThinPrint.
The toolkit's "session-in-session" technology allows multiple print sessions through the Citrix ICA protocol, the Microsoft RDP protocol and the VMware PCoIP protocol. Desktop Extension's Virtual Channel Gateway links desktops with a central print server, removing the administrative layer for printouts to local printers or home office printers from the print server.
ThinPrint said it had also improved printer allocation management on its platform, making it possible for system administrators to match printers to desktops or users "with minimum effort."
Desktop Extension is free to existing ThinPrint customers. The extension is an integrated component of .print Engine, .print Application Server Engine and .print RDP Engine, the company said.
