The number of new innovative laptops, smart home devices, gadgets and heavy-hitting keynotes from some of the biggest pioneers in tech have CES 2023 attendees in Las Vegas plenty to look forward to in consumer electronics this year and beyond.

More than 100,000 attendees traveled to CES 2023 for the massive event which marked the largest in-person CES event in years.

Lenovo Yoga Book 9i

In June, Lenovo will launch the Yoga Book 9i, a full-sized OLED dual-screen laptop built on the Intel Evo platform and running Microsoft’s Windows 11 operating system. The laptop is expected to cost $2,099.99.

The Yoga Book 9i promises more versatility than the traditional clamshell laptop, allowing users the ability to view images across two 13.3-inch 2.8K OLED displays with a five-finger motion and the ability to work on two separate files simultaneously, according to Hong Kong-based Lenovo.

Users can watch video on one screen while taking notes on the second screen simultaneously without interruption, according to Lenovo.

The 9i can switch from laptop to tablet to tent mode, which can allow users to display slide presentations on one screen while controlling the presentation on a second screen.

Presentation hosts can go through their slides on one screen while answering questions on the second screen.

Acer eKinekt BD 3 Bike Desk

Sure, we could give this spot to the Acer Swift Go 16. The eye-catching laptop – expected to launch in North America in June for $799.99 – offers a 3.2K OLED display, Intel Core processors with artificial intelligence (AI) engines for improved video collaboration and integration plus Intel Unison allows for PCs to connect with Android or iOS devices.

But the real Acer CES 2023 item that stuck with us is the workstation that offers sustainability and exercise options for remote workers – perfect for New Year’s resolutions.

The eKinekt BD 3 bike desk supports healthier lifestyles while creating reusable electricity. Kinetic energy from pedaling powers the machine and charges devices while the LCD display and a companion smartphone app provide information to help riders keep track of workout goals. One hour of constant pedaling can generate 75 watts of self-generated power.

The eKinekt BD 3 will be available in June at $999.

Lenovo ThinkPhone By Motorola

Motorola, owned by Lenovo, showcased its ThinkPhone smartphone at CES, promising availability worldwide in the coming months.

The phone is powered with the Snapdragon 8+ first generation mobile platform and the ThinkShield security platform and Moto Threat Defense service based on artificial intelligence, according to Lenovo.

ThinkPhones also come with Microsoft 365, Outlook and Teams preloaded. Motorola and Microsoft also promise a push-to-talk feature for instant, Walkie Talkie-esque communication through Teams.

The phone has for handling heavy workflows, a 6.6-inch display, a 50-megapixel camera and more than 36 hours of battery life, according to Lenovo.

And Think 2 Think connectivity allows users to integrate ThinkPhones with Lenovo ThinkPads for transferring text, photos, scanned documents, videos and other content between the devices.

Ring Car Cam To Protect Vehicles

Preorders are now available for the new Ring Car Cam.

The Amazon-owned home security company unveiled the dual-facing dashboard security camera Car Cam that records while your car is both in motion or when it’s parked.

The Ring Car Cam links to the Ring App on your phone to let you see and record footage of the interior and exterior of your car.

There are two HD cameras with Night Vision detect and record movement to give you a better picture of suspicious activity to help keep ahead of a break-in and more. Users also get real-time alerts when motion is detected and check in anytime with Live View and Two-Way Talk in the Ring App when your Car Cam is connected to your home Wi-Fi.

The footage is stored locally but can be uploaded via Wi-Fi at home or by using a phone as a hotspot. The Car Cam mounts between the front windshield and dashboard.

Lisa Su Details Future AMD Investment Areas

Kicking off CES 2023 was AMD CEO Lisa Su, who showed the power of AMD’s new lineup of processors, GPUs and AI accelerators.

Su said that 2023 is an incredible time to be in the semiconductor industry given the difficulties businesses and users have faced. However, she said, the industry also had to deal with an incredible surge in demand that stressed all aspects of the semiconductor supply chain.

“One thing is true: The pandemic made it clear that semiconductors are absolutely essential to everything that we do,” she said. “Virtually every product, every service, every experience in our lives is powered by semiconductors. Whether you’re talking about cloud services, or how we work, game and connect, chips have become a critical enabler of everything in our modern life.”

AMD, Su said, is all about pushing the envelope in high-performance and adaptive computing and using technology to create solutions to the world’s most important challenges.
And to emphasize that point, she highlighted five key areas where AMD is investing, along with some of the new technologies the semiconductor manufacturer is introducing over the next few months to meet the new requirements she identified.

Displace TV: The World’s First Wireless Television

The Displace TV is a completely wireless TV that sticks onto any wall surface through a built-in suction-based back.

The 55-inch Displace TV offers 4K and weighs less than 20 pounds that can be transported from room to room.

The TV is powered via four swappable, rechargeable batteries.

On top of voice and touch control, the Displace TV uses “gesture controls” to allow you to easily brose and play content by using your hands.

However, the Displace TV is still only a prototype unveiled at CES 2023, but the company is currently taking reservations.

Samsung Galaxy A14

Samsung’s latest 5G smartphone is the Galaxy A14, which boasts a multi-day battery, improved quality for selfies and expanded storage. The phones are priced online for $199.99.

The A14 guarantees up to two generations of Android operating system upgrades and up to four years of security updates, according to South Korea-based Samsung. It has a 13-megapixel front camera and triple-lens rear camera.

The phones offer a 90-hertz display, 6.6-inch screen and 128 gigabytes of onboard storage, which can expand to a terabyte with a microSD card.

HP Dragonfly Pro Chromebook

The new HP Dragonfly Pro portfolio includes more powerful audio, camera and touchscreen, all-day battery life, and 24/7 live concierge support and services.

The 14-inch Dragonfly Pro Chromebook is designed for individuals who are constantly connected to the internet, want an easy-to-use device with premium features and design, and consume a variety of content anywhere they go.

HP’s roughly 3-pound device has the world’s first 8 MP user-facing camera in a clamshell Chromebook.

The Chromebook launched at CES also has what HP calls the world’s brightest touchscreen display in a Chromebook, with a ultrabright 1,200 nit touchscreen display.

The Chromebook includes 12 Gen Intel Core and features Intel Evo verified for fast performance, connectivity, and charging, while allow allowing for seamless pairing between a user’s phone and device.

Schneider’s New Home Energy Solution Brings Together Power, Solar, Battery And Charging

Schneider launched a new home energy management solution for homeowners seeking savings, comfort, and energy independence.

The new Schneider Home energy management solution includes a home battery for clean energy storage, a high-power solar inverter, a smart electrical panel, electric vehicle charger and connected electric sockets and light switches – all controlled by the easy-to-use Schneider Home app.

The Schneider Home solution orchestrates home energy by bringing together utility power, solar, back up battery and EV charging.

Schneider’s offers the ability to monitor energy consumption by individual appliance, decide where to prioritize power during an outage to extend available back up power, and avoid expensive electrical service upgrades when purchasing an EV. The solution also allows homeowners to save by enrolling in utility programs and qualify for tax incentives.

In contrast to solutions which require separate apps and hardware, Schneider Electric has eliminated the complexity by automating energy production, storage, measurement and control.

LG Gram Devices

LG sought to raise the bar in 2023 laptops with some of its exhibited items at CES 2023.

LG showed off its Gram Style laptops, which have hidden touchpads activated when users touch the haptic rectangle under the keyboard.

The Gram Style comes in 16 inches or 14 and has 16:10 OLED displays with anti-glare low reflection. The 16-inch one has a 120-hertz refresh rate and 13th generation Intel Core processors, according to South Korea-based LG.

The Gram Ultraslim is the thinnest Gram model around, weighing about 2 pounds and with the thickness of a smartphone or notepad – less than half an inch, according to LG.

The Ultraslim doesn’t sacrifice quality and power for size, according to LG. It comes with a 15.6-inch OLED display with anti-glare low reflection (AGLR) coating and a 13th generation Intel Core processor.

Opteev Technologies says its new ViraWarn self-test can discover COVID-19, RSA and influenza in under 60 seconds.

Dubbing itself as the world’s first affordable COVID-19 breath analyzer, ViraWarn by Opteev uses uses cartridges that measure for viruses by using just your breath.

The cartridges only need to be changed after a positive test or a period of daily use and will give results within 60 seconds.

Features include built-in artificial intelligence, multiple screenings per cartridge, and positive or negative LED notifications.

The product is still in clinical trials.

Lenovo Smart Paper

Lenovo’s new Smart Paper is looking to take note taking and technical drawings to the next level.

Users can choose from 74 templates to handle any task—from to-do lists and technical drawing to musical notation. Write on the screen and the notepad can convert your handwriting to digital text for easy viewing later.

Users can also instantly edit or move around your existing notes anywhere on the page.

The Lenovo Smart Paper Pen features nine pen types, including pen, pencil, highlighter, marker, and paint brush.

Thanks to Ebooks.com, users can access more than two million books on the Lenovo Smart Paper. Users can view everything in almost any file format, from epub to pdf and docx.

As well as storing your notes and files locally on your device, the Lenovo Smart Paper App syncs everything to the cloud, secured behind a password.

AMD Brings Power Of AI To Mobile Processors With Ryzen 7040 Series

AMD’s new Ryzen 7040 Series Mobile processors features the industry’s first mobile x86 processor to feature a dedicated on-chip artificial intelligent (AI) engine.

As part of the new Ryzen 7040 Series Mobile processors, AMD unveiled Ryzen AI, the first dedicated AI hardware in an x86 processor which brings AMD XDNA adaptive AI architecture to laptop computing delivering more performance for real-time AI experiences.

Ryzen processors with Ryzen AI outperform the Apple M2 CPU by up to 20 percent while being up to 50 percent more energy efficient, according to AMD.

This performance and efficiency ultimately add up to richer, real-time user experiences in video collaboration, content creation, productivity, gaming and protection.

“With the new Ryzen AI technology built into our Ryzen 7040 Series Mobile processors, we will bring not only leadership performance and power efficiency but also the power of artificial intelligence to laptop devices, ushering in a future with powerful new capabilities that only true AI hardware can provide and opening the door to a new world of experiences,” said Saeid Moshkelani, senior vice president and general manager of client devices for AMD in a statement.

The Ryzen 7040 SoC puts out a total of 20 PCI-Express Gen 4 lanes.

HTC Vive XR Elite Standalone AR/VR Headset

One of the most interesting virtual reality headsets at CES 2023, was the HTC Vive XR Elite, which weighs less than 1-pound.

The nearly glasses-like goggles include mixed reality capabilities, a battery strap detachment and connection to PCs and phones.

The standalone VR headset has Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 chips with a 110-degree field of view along with LCD displays with 2K resolution per eye that runs at 90Hz.

The HTC Vive XR Elite boasts 3840 by 1920 combined resolution.

Other technology features include 128GB of storage, 12GB of RAM and up to 2 hours of continuous power.

Samsung Bespoke AI Wall Oven Analyzes Workouts And Diet Goals For Meal Recommendations

Samsung’s launched a new Bespoke AI Oven to make meal prep a breeze by combining intelligence with innovative cooking technologies to produce meals that cater to users’ dietary preferences.

Integration with SmartThings Cooking and Samsung Health allows the Bespoke AI Oven to analyze users’ workout stats and diet goals to recommend meal options based on the ingredients they have at home.

Samsung’s oven also features a Push to Open Door mechanism which replaces a traditional handle for a simpler look. The built-in AI Pro Cooking system optimizes cooking settings while monitoring food.

If the oven is set to cook a recognized dish using the cooking mode, temperature and time the oven recommends, the AI Pro Cooking system will even send users food warning notifications to prevent burning.

Using an internal camera and powerful AI, the oven’s Sense Inside feature can recommend cooking settings by recognizing 80 different dishes and ingredients.

LG Refrigerators With MoodUp

Soon enough, employers will have to explore ways to get workers back into the office. Perhaps this color-changing refrigerator from LG is what’s needed to reinvigorate “water-cooler talk.”

LG’s MoodUp feature for refrigerators allows users to choose different colors to fit the move. Owners of the four-door model have more than 190,000 possible color combinations.

Users apply the colors with the LG ThinQ application. The LED door panels can be turned off as well.

Kohler Smart Bathroom Products

In the tech and wellness arena, Kohler is hoping to make a big splash with its new system that adds natural calming scents to your shower for a fresh start (or end) to the day.

The Sprig pod attaches to the Kohler System to release a vitamin-infused, scented “pod cocktail” into the shower stream and will run for several minutes.

The System starts at $119 with pods included and will be available to order in the first quarter of 2023.

We also have to give it to the $10,000 Kohler Numi 2.0 smart toilet, which has Amazon Alexa, mood lighting and can lift and lower the seat on its own.

Samsung Flex Hybrid Display

Samsung brought next-generation foldable and slidable products to its CES booth this year, including the Flex Hybrid, which does both.

The Flex Hybrid foldable tablet has an additional display that slides out.

Videos from CES 2023 show users watching a football game on the main screen before pulling out the side screen to view additional statistics.

According to Samsung, users can watch movies and videos on the foldable 10.5-inch OLED display before sliding out one side to make a larger 12.4-inch screen.

Proto Hologram Devices

Los Angeles-based startup Proto made a splash at CES 2023 with its hologram device that beams users worldwide in 4K.

Users capture live and pre-recorded events on their mobile devices with Proto Studio Kit and can beam themselves into large holographic displays in another location.

Proto markets its Epic device for use at live shows and events, retail, work communications, health care and other examples. It weighs about 420 pounds and stands at 54 inches by 87.5 inches by 28.5 inches, according to the company.
Proto backers include tech pioneer Tim Draper, Mike Walsh of Uber and Salesforce fame, musician Sean Combs and actor and show host Howie Mandel.

BMW’s Color-Changing Concept Car; Arnold Schwarzenegger Takes The Stage

BMW announced during its keynote a new color-changing concept car BMW i Vision Dee, dubbed as the ultimate companion.

Although the vehicle is not on the market, the car company said it wanted to showcase what’s possible when merging hardware and software together to digitally transform a car into an intelligent ally.

The midsize electric sports sedan was covered in panels that can change between 32 different colors on demand. The outside of the car is made of electronic paper built by startup E Ink.

Movie star and BMW spokesperson Arnold Schwarzenegger took to the stage at CES 2023 last week to promote the concept car.

“In most of my movies, the machines were the enemy,” said Schwarzenegger on stage during the unveiling of VMW’s color-changing car. “But today, we found ways to use technology as an alley.”

The BMW appears to be years away from general availability.
