Fast-growing co-location and services standout eStruxture says it plans to become the largest carrier-neutral data center provider in Canada with the acquisition Thursday of Shaw Communications’ data center in Calgary.
“This acquisition furthers our strategy of becoming the leading cloud and carrier-neutral provider in Canada,” said Todd Coleman, president and CEO of eStruxture, in a statement. “We are committed to keep pushing to deliver more for our customers—more capacity, more locations and more cloud and network connections.”
The company has been expanding its market presence at a rapid rate due to securing millions in capital over the past 18 months. Montreal-based eStruxture opened its second Vancouver, B.C.-based data center earlier this year.
Last year, eStruxture acquired data center co-location and Software-as-a-Service specialist Kolotek after securing $180 million in committed capital to expand its existing data centers and acquire new facilities. Then in June, the company secured an expanded $170 million credit facility with a group of Canadian banks.

The addition of Shaw Communications’ Calgary data center adds to eStruxture’s five data centers in Vancouver and Montreal, building on top of the company’s 280,000 square feet of combined data center space in Canada. EStruxture will take over all of Shaw Communications’ contractual relationships in the facility as well as the existing operational and sales teams. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We’re exited to announce the acquisition of the newest, most state-of-the-art data center in Calgary, and welcome Shaw’s existing data center employees and customers to eStruxture,” said Coleman.
EStruxture’s new 65,000-square-foot data center provides up to 30KW per cabinet. Commissioned by Shaw Communications in August 2015, the facility is highly energy efficient thanks to an innovative free air-cooling system. EStruxture said it plans to expand the Calgary data center’s ecosystem of network service providers and cloud on-ramps.
The data center infrastructure company provides co-location, private cloud, managed services, bandwidth, and security and support services to over 900 companies with access to all major carriers, public and private cloud providers.
Earlier this month, eStruxture launched a new Channel Partner Program designed for easier access to its portfolio of data center services. The new program includes training and a dedicated relationship manager, to name a few, as well as access to the company’s customers.
