GFI Software CEO Jumps Ship To ‘Transform’ StorMagic

“My goal as CEO is to take these existing ingredients and work with the talented StorMagic team to apply new go-to-market strategies and operational efficiencies to enable the company to accelerate growth,” said StorMagic’s new CEO Danial Beer.

GFI Software’s CEO Danial Beer has jumped ship to edge computing specialist StorMagic as its new CEO in a move the company says will “transform” and grow its edge, hyperconverged infrastructure and security sales.

Beer said he became CEO of U.K.-based StorMagic because of its purpose-built solutions and capabilities in the growing edge computing market, which is expected to reach $450 billion by 2025, according to market research firm Gartner.

“My goal as CEO is to take these existing ingredients and work with the talented StorMagic team to apply new go-to-market strategies and operational efficiencies to enable the company to accelerate growth,” said Beer in a statement. “I’m excited to join the StorMagic family and help the team find new ways to solve customer problems at the edge and beyond.”

StorMagic is looking to leverage Beer’s more than 25 years of top executive experience in software industry to become a leading storage and security player in the fast-growing edge computing market.

Beer comes to StorMagic after serving as CEO for Austin, Texas-based GFI Software for the past three years. Throughout his career he has grown multinational software companies and divisions with annual revenues topping $500 million. Prior to GFI Software Beer was Chief Customer Success Officer at Aurea Software and before that was executive director of both the performance management and M&A division at IBM.

With a heritage in hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI), StorMagic specializes in storage, security and video surveillance products for distributed edge environments.

As data at the edge grows via digital transformation and IoT implementations, StorMagic provides edge solutions to help customers deal with massive amounts of unstructured data flowing in. For example, StorMagic’s ARQvault allows customers to gather unstructured data from anywhere, store it for unlimited time and find it quickly, while striving to save customers at least 50 percent on their total storage expenditures.

In March, the company acquired video and digital asset management software company SoleraTec in a move to boost its own video surveillance and digital evidence management solutions.

StorMagic said Beer’s executive-level and M&A background are poised to position it for dramatic growth as the company enters a new era to help customers meet growing data challenges and edge computing opportunities.
