Scale Computing’s David Hallmen On New Sales And Marketing Hires

Fast-growing Scale Computing has nabbed two new IT veterans for its executive team aimed at driving global sales and channel expansion for the hyper-converged and edge computing specialist.

“Both individuals understand the strategy and the value the channel brings to the table and have the experience to engage with [partners] to make sure that we’re not only serving them with great technology and awesome services, but also offering them margins and business value that they demand and we know how to deliver,” said David Hallmen, chief revenue officer for Scale Computing, at XChange 2019 in Las Vegas this week.

The Indianapolis-based vendor has hired Dan Pierce as its new vice president of strategic sales, responsible for Scale Computing’s growing global OEM business in licensing its IP to strategic partners and leading the company’s sales in Asia-Pacific and Latin America.

Pierce has 20 years of enterprise software sales and leadership experience for companies including Microsoft, ProClarity and Calgary Scientific. He also brings business development experience, having created and managed relationships for Dell, Siemens, HP and IBM over the decades.

“[Pierce] is now running our OEM accounts as well as our emerging market strategies, so how we’re going to market with partnerships in Latin America and Asia-Pacific. Dan’s essential in building out that whole area of business for Scale Computing and bringing a lot of experience to the table and we’re proud to have him,” said Hallmen.

Tasked with leading Scale Computing’s marketing arm is Marlena Fernandez, who is bringing more than 20 years of global marketing experience to the company. Fernandez, vice president of marketing, has previously held leadership roles at Oracle, Symantec and Seagate Technology.

“She’s expanded her scope to take over all of marketing here at Scale Computing. We’re happy to have her with all of her experience and know-how to generate more awareness and get us into much more consideration activities,” said Hallmen. “She’s going to be taking over a whole function of the company. It’s a big job and we’re happy to have her.”

Scale Computing was recently named to CRN’s 2019 Data Center 50 list as well as a consistent player on Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Hyper-Converged infrastructure.
