APC Aims To Boost SaaS Business

Power management and protection company APC aims to increase its Software-as-a-Service business.

"Everyone's talking about converged infrastructure ... we actually have full-blown integration to all of them, so APC’s invested heavily in software to actually make that happen. It’s not just power-cooling, but power-cooling software,’ said Senior Strategic Marketing Manager, Himanshu Patel.

Patel called software the "big differentiator."

Patel said APC will continue to provide hardware products in the data center and power distribution space, among other product lines, but wants a more balanced business model.

"I'd love to get to where it's equal, 50/50," Patel said about the balance between hardware and software.

Patel said APC also will refresh its channel program in 2015. The company recently lowered deal registration thresholds and now includes software as a capability in hopes of incenting software and services plays.
