Samsung’s 2017 will revolve around the internet of things (IoT), according to President and COO of Samsung Electronics Americas, Tim Baxter.

“IoT is not a buzzword. In fact, it guides our overall strategy,” Baxter said on stage at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Baxter extolled Samsung’s IoT ecosystem for products and services and said the company now has IoT capabilities in every home appliance category.

"Coupled with our extensive line of global devices, we are clearly the uncontested global leaders in IoT connected devices," he said.

Samsung’s IoT ecosystem has expanded to include SmartThings, Samsung+, and Samsung Pay.

"Samsung will continue to connect its devices and services. We’re making big, bold bets in IoT, billions in R&D to develop next-generation technology like 5G, and acquisitions in areas like AI, in VIV labs, and the cloud, like Joyent," Baxter said.
