MSP machineLOGIC To Unveil New Security Platform This Year

‘Not everybody, especially smaller partners, are going to be built to staff a 24-by-7 security operation, nor should they. There is specific tooling and specific staffing, and that‘s different than the MSP model. But being able to outsource that and flow that into your MSP practice is probably the path towards success,’ says machineLOGIC CEO Daniel Johnson.

MachineLOGIC, a Denver-based managed IT service provider, is releasing a new security platform in 2022 that will help better serve existing customers’ needs, without forcing the switch to an MSSP model.

“I‘m an MSP that’s security focused, I don’t want to necessarily build a 24-by-7 operation,” said Daniel Johnson, CEO of machineLOGIC. “I want to outsource that from a SOC as a service provider to supplement me and my team so that I have the capabilities of an MSSP, but I haven‘t lost the roots or the core business model of where I’ve come from an MSP perspective.”

Johnson (pictured above) said that’s where he sees machineLOGIC heading over the next few years, but he also does not see that as a reality for the rest of the solution provider community.

“Not everybody, especially smaller partners, are going to be built to staff a 24-by-7 security operation, nor should they,” he told CRN . “There is specific tooling and specific staffing, and that‘s different than the MSP model. But being able to outsource that and flow that into your MSP practice is probably the path towards success. That’s kind of what we’re pursuing.”

Johnson said that a few new hires and promotions within the company are helping to roll out the security platform. The company said it plans to release a new security platform and managed security practice at the end of the second quarter that will deliver increased security to clients.

“We’ve built our dedicated security team within machineLOGIC made up of new hires and some promotions that we think will continue to grow over time,” he said. The company has a total of 35 employees.

machineLOGIC intends to pursue its new security services by leveraging SOC as a Service (SOCaaS) and key security vendors rather than switching to an MSSP model, Johnson said in an email. The company has seen high demand in the market for partners that can deliver high levels of security engagement and plans to grow a dedicated team focused on managing security for machineLOGIC clients, according to Johnson.

In terms of outlook for 2022, Johnson said machineLOGIC aims to grow its revenue between 20 and 25 percent. The company generated about $7.8 million in revenue in 2021, he said. Johnson said he hopes the new security platform to be released later this year will increase the company’s revenue trajectory.

“We think that there’s a pretty high demand in the market for that next level of security engagement,” he said. “And so we’re starting to see a good traction on that. And we think that’ll drive revenues.”

MachineLOGIC serves about 60 customers in various industries in the United States, focusing on companies that have 100 or more employees.

Johnson said the outlook for 2022 is a promising one.

“We will continue to focus on the cloud and security transformational efforts, getting folks into that modern workplace, getting them into the modern security mindset, and start to step them through the modern security framework. That’s our key focus,” he said.
