What's The Opportunity For MSPs In IoT?

Vendors love to talk about the multibillion-dollar opportunities around the Internet of Things, but what are real business applications for their partners? The channel is split on whether IoT is already the next big thing or if some partners may be counting their chickens before they hatch.

Some partners said vendors have started to pitch them on the value of connected technologies.

’Synnex has approached us in that environment, as a new segment for us. So we are looking into it,’ said PCG’s David Hodgdon.

ClearPointe’s Charles Van Heusen is enthusiastic about sharing ideas around IoT with his customers. He called IoT ’the wave of the future,’ and said that his business has started to talk with clients about how to implement connected technologies into their solutions.

Valiant’s Thomas Clancy continues to eye the future, as he told CRNtv that he expects the opportunities for service providers to be around analytics generated by IoT rather than server hardware.

’It’s going to be more in taking that giant pile of big data and boiling it down to something that your customers can use. That’s where a small and nimble team can really deliver,’ he said.

But not everyone has jumped on the bandwagon. Some partners are not ready to make real commitments with customers in the IoT space.

’Right now it’s great to talk about, it’s great to learn about, but it really is still a little too soon to react with clients,’ said Gulf South Technology Solutions’ Haggai Davis.
