Report: Apple's Smaller, Slicker iPod Nano Coming Wednesday
Apple Insider quoted "people familiar with the matter" as saying that the new Nano will be "more akin to the iPod Shuffle than the current generation iPod Nano." The new Nano's display will be 3cm x 3cm, its sources indicated.
"Even with this small size, however, it is expected to have a traditional iPod dock connector, allowing compatibility with the existing iPod accessory ecosystem," wrote Apple Insider's Neil Hughes and Kasper Jade on Friday.
The media invitations making the rounds from Apple show an acoustic guitar, igniting speculation that it would be a music-centric event. Other reports suggest Apple has the next iPod Touch ready for display, and may also have an Apple TV announcement on tap.
Whatever the case, the Apple pre-event hype machine is alive and kicking, which may be good news for Apple and iPod. Unlike other Apple triumphs like iPad and the iPhone, iPod sales were actually a weak link in Apple's otherwise blockbuster third-quarter earnings, with iPod sales having declined 8 percent year over year. A little of that ol' Apple hype machine magic may be just what iPod needs.
