CRN Podcast: Is The BlackBerry Era Over?

The once-dominant smartphone maker Research In Motion has been humbled lately, thanks to intense competition from Apple and Google in the mobile device market.

The current consumerization of IT isn't helping matters for RIM, either. Slick touchscreen interfaces and alluring mobile apps have taken priority over the BlackBerry's mini-keyboard and the staunch security of RIM's BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

RIM isn't going down without a fight, however; the company named a new CEO recently in Thorsten Heins, and this week it launched version 2.0 of its BlackBerry PlayBook OS to help boost its floundering tablet business. But is RIM doing enough to change its fortunes? Can the BlackBerry smartphone make a comeback in the enterprise space? Or have Apple's iOS and Google's Android replaced RIM forever?

CRN editors Rob Wright and Kristin Bent discuss these questions and more in the latest CRN Podcast.
