Intel showcased its NUC line of mini PCs at the recent D&H show in Boston, highlighting the compact designs with i5 and i3 processors.

NUC stands for "Next Unit of Computing." "You've got a full-blown desktop computer," said Intel field engineer Barry Heller. NUCs are perfect for home media centers and gaming.

The newest generation of NUC models, featuring the Intel NUC D34010WYKH, provides smart graphics using Intel HD Graphics 4400 and video playback. It supports 2.5-inch drives. This fourth-generation NUC, which is currently shipping, has 8-channel audio and is equipped with Intel Rapid State Technology, as well as Intel Smart Connect technology for updates.

The D54250WYB SKU of Intel NUC boasts Turbo Boost Technology 2.0, which allows processor cores to run faster than ever before. This model comes with Intel HD Graphics 5000 and Quick Sync Video for rapid video encoding.

The small NUCs have a stereo/mic jack as well as a USB port, and can be mounted to the back of a monitor, sit on a surface or mounted onto a wall.
