WATCH: HP’s Anneliese Olson On Developing Printers That Customers Want

HP’s latest line of commercial printers will help its partners appeal to a new type of customer, says Anneliese Olson, global head of home printing.

HP is making a big push for millennials as seen in a new line of stylish, smart printers that fit the home and the office. HP’s Anneliese Olson, General Manager and Global Head of HP Home Printing, shares how partners are benefiting from these advancements in an interview with CRNtv at HP Reinvent 2019.

How HP has transformed its print products to meet a new type of consumer and how are you bringing partners along for that ride?

 We’ve been out and redone our customer segmentation and really looked at all different kinds of segments in terms of gig economy, employees, those who are students, people into photography and small businesses - all up and down the gamut – really bringing the customer lens and the customer journey to our partners. Partners are who we are all about. Eighty-seven percent of HP’s business is led by channel partners and they’re a very important part of the equation for us to deliver to end users.

What do customers want out of a printer today?

We went out about 2 years ago and we talked to about 22,000 customers around the world. We took that new segmentation lens and talked to customers about why they print. Many print to manage and organize. Many print to grow and learn, and many print to create, personalize and express themselves. As we take those insights into the kind of product offerings we want to put together, this resulted in us bringing three pillars of innovation: design, experience and simplicity

As we take this lens, we started last fall with HP Tango, the world’s first smart home printer. And, from there we continued to roll out the lineup and that kind of smart aspect of things is really where you start to see our features and solutions change.
