Netgear To Deliver WLAN Switch For Small Enterprises

Wireless switches provide centralized management of security and other access issues for WLANs but have typically been deployed primarily by larger enterprises. They use so-called thin access points, which have less built-in intelligence and cost less than traditional APs.

Netgear said that the switch it will develop with AutoCell Laboratories will work with Netgear's exsiting ProSafe line of wireless access points.

"With the rapid integration of WLAN technology, businesses face the emerging challenge of managing the load of large numbers of clients over deployments of multiple access points," Patrick Lo, Netgear's CEO, said in a statement. "The Netgear solution with AutoCell delivers this robust business-class capability affordably to small and medium business."

The companies provided no pricing information or delivery dates for the wireless switch. AutoCell Laboratories was previously known as Propagate Networks.
