Avaya Integrates Internet Speech Within SOAs

The Avaya Voice Portal platform integrates within a service-oriented architecture, an evolution in distributed computing that leverages emerging web services standards, company officials said. In addition, the Basking Ridge, N.J., company introduced a speech-application development tool, called Avaya Dialog Designer, which is meant to speed development of speech-based self-service applications.

Because the Voice Portal integrates within an SOA, businesses can re-use existing software components and applications to introduce speech self service, the company said. The new product supports the Red Hat Linux Enterprise 3.0 platform and features license pooling and automatic fail-over capabilities.

The Dialog Designer is an Eclipse-based application development tool that features a common VoiceXML 2.0 browser for use with Avaya Voice Portal, which helps reduce design risks caused by browser incompatibility. Eclipse is standards-based framework that developers use to access multiple tools in the languages of their choice to create applications.

The Avaya Voice Portal and Dialog Designers are expected to be demonstrated this week at SpeechTEK 2005 in New York.
