3Com Extends VoIP Apps to Road Warriors
The new IP Telecommuting module is available for 3Com&s VCX VoIP system.
The software module, based on technology OEMed from Ingate Systems, uses Session Initiation Protocol to extend communications applications, such as conferencing and messaging, to remote workers.
Using the module, home-based workers or road warriors can tap into VoIP calling features and applications using a broadband connection and an IP phone or softphone.
Pricing for the software module carries a list price of $80 per user in a 100-user configuration and is scheduled for general availability in October.
While 3Com&s high-end VCX platform has thus far been offered through just a handful of partners, more are being recruited and the percentage of revenue for the product line coming through the channel is on the rise, said Ram Ramaprasad, director of voice applications and product line management at 3Com, Marlborough, Mass. Similar functionality should be available on 3Com&s SMB-focused NBX line next year, he said.
