Burton Latest Channel Executive To Leave Avaya

Burton, vice president of global channel strategy and distribution, left the communications networking vendor in mid-February for personal reasons, according to a spokeswoman at Basking Ridge-based Avaya.

"Jan was a real supporter of the channel. She was an ally to us," said Jeff Hyman, senior national account manager at North American Communications Resources, a solution provider based in Eagan, Minn. "Avaya's got some great channel people, but we're going to miss her," he said.

Elizabeth Garcia, vice president of the Americas region at Avaya, is handling Burton's duties on an interim basis. Avaya expects to name a replacement for Burton, likely within the next few weeks, the spokeswoman said.

Garcia reports to Susan Bailey, Avaya's vice president of Americas, global accounts, channels and alliances, as did Burton.

Burton replaced Edison Peres as Avaya's vice president of sales for the business partner organization after Peres' departure in January 2002. Peres joined Cisco Systems a month later as vice president of emerging technologies for the worldwide channels group.

Bailey joined Avaya last July, filling a role vacated by Michael Kiefer, vice president and general manager of North American operations, who left Avaya earlier in the year.
