Verizon said it will provide account credits for any customer affected by Verizon’s massive outage Wednesday, which lasted nearly 10 hours and hit over 1 million users across America.

“We let many of our customers down and for that, we are truly sorry. They expect more from us,” said a Verizon spokesperson in a statement to CRN.

“We will make this right—for any customer affected, we will provide account credits and share updates soon,” Verizon said.

Downdetector said more than 1.5 million Verizon customers reported wireless and data outages on Jan. 14, peaking at around 1 p.m. EST.

The outage left over 1 million users without wireless internet access or phone services for most of Wednesday.

Verizon’s outage extended across America, from New York and Philadelphia to North Carolina and Texas.

Verizon Outage ‘Resolved,’ Says ‘No Indication Of A Cyberattack’

At around 10 p.m. EST Wednesday, Verizon said the outage was officially resolved.

“If customers are still having an issue, we encourage them to restart their devices to reconnect to the network,” Verizon said.

“For those affected, we will provide account credits. Details will be shared directly with customers,” said the telecom company. “We sincerely apologize for the disruption.”

It is key to note that New York-based Verizon said there was “no indication of a cyberattack” regarding the cause of the outage.

Other telecommunications companies saw a smaller number of outage reports on Downdetector Wednesday, including T-Mobile and AT&T.

No Details On Cause Of Outage Or Account Credits

The cause of the outage is still unknown.

CRN has reached out to Verizon for comment regarding what caused the outage and when users will receive their account credit.

Verizon previously saw widespread outages in August, when around 23,000 people reported a service outage at 3:30 p.m. EST Aug. 30. Verizon blamed the outage on a software issue at the time.

Verizon’s stock appears to have not been impacted by the outage.

Verizon stock is trading at around $39.66 per share as of Thursday morning, representing little change to Wednesday’s $39.83 share price.
