O'Reilly, who served as CEO of Melbourne, Fla.-based Solunet, will take on the role of senior vice president of U.S. enterprise sales at Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Juniper, a role left vacant by the departure of Hayley Tabor earlier this year.

O'Reilly will be responsible for leading Juniper's U.S. enterprise sales organization, a paradigm shift for a former CEO of a widely profitable VAR and Juniper Global Partner with a focus on core networking, network security, wireless and VoIP. He will report to Juniper's executive vice president of worldwide field operations, John Morris.

Philip O'Reilly

"We are very excited to have someone of Phil's caliber lead the enterprise sales organization in the U.S.," Morris said in a statement. "Phil's enterprise and management expertise will be a great asset to the company, as we continue to deepen the strategic relationships we have with high-performance business and deliver innovations to the market that ensure mutual long-term success."

In his new role, O'Reilly, 53, will collaborate closely with the executive management team to ensure alignment and drive enterprise sales through the company's direct, indirect, federal and distribution channel. He will also be responsible for developing and executing Juniper's strategic go-to-market plans in the U.S. to capitalize on the opportunities in the enterprise.

And while the new role is a shift for O'Reilly, solution providers are optimistic that having a former VAR in an enterprise sales role could boost channel sensitivity.

"As far as I am concerned, bringing someone from the field is great and I hope Phil remembers the challenges, frustrations and also all of the positive business that comes with this complicated relationship as integrators that we find ourselves in." said Tom Duffy, president and CEO of Igxglobal, a Rocky Hill, Conn.-based solution provider.

Prior to his career at Solunet, O'Reilly was CFO and vice president of business development for Datavon, a VoIP service provider. He has also held several executive roles in companies in the manufacturing and technology verticals.
